Venod Sharma has an illustrious political career of more than four decades. In these four decades, he has held various positions in the Central Government as well as in the Government of Haryana. Venod Sharma started his political career in the year 1978, when he was appointed as the General Secretary of Indian Youth Congress.
Between 1978 to 1983, Venod held various positions in Congress including the General Secretary of Haryana Pradesh Congress Committee and a special invitee to the Congress working committee.
In the year1980, Venod won his first election as MLA from Banur constituency in Punjab.In the year 1988 he was appointed as the President of Chandigarh Union Territory Congress Committee, a position which he held for 10 years.
In the year 1995 Venod Sharma was inducted as the Minister of State in the Ministry of Civil Supplies, Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution in the government of P.V. Narasimha Rao. From 2005-2014, he represented Ambala constituency as it’s MLA.
On March 5, 2014, he left Congress for the wrong decisions taken, and completely ignoring the grass root worker.
Venod Sharma is married to Smt. Shakti Rani Sharma and they have three children, two sons and one daughter. An avid cricket fan, he has played an important role in promoting sports in the state of Haryana. Venod Sharam has always been involved in many philanthropic activities across Haryana. He is working for the empowerment of women and known for fighting for the cause of the poor. Under the aegis of "Ambala Healthcare & Welfare Society”, Venod Sharma have been involved in many welfare activities like blood donation drives and eye check-up camps in Ambala region.
